This article describes the choice necessary in building a sense of purpose in our lives. This view does not hold the belief that we must connect to some deeper spiritual meaning of life or greater understanding of the universe. Rather, it asserts that it is our responsibility to:
1) Determine our own reasons for living
2) Work on radically accepting the world around us
3) Commit to turning the mind towards the path we have chosen
By deciding to live intentionally and mindfully in accordance with a set of identified values we can provide ourselves a life of personal meaning. In DBT, we often refer to this as our “life worth living.”
